Ever wondered why we celebrate Mother's Day? Sceptics amongst us will say it’s commercial hype, encouraged by the gift card industry. However since ancient times Mothers have been celebrated, long before the birth of card shops. The Goddess Brigid was honoured in Britain whilst in ancient Greece, a festival was devoted to Rhea, Mother of Olympians. In modern times Mother's Day is celebrated in many countries around the world. At the start of the 17th century the fourth Sunday in Lent was designated as Mothering Sunday. This was due to the fact that this was a time when servants were allowed to visit their mothers. In 1914 the festival was established in America. These days Mothering Sunday has become recognised as an important date on our calendar. A day dedicated to those who have often dedicated a lifetime to their children. Our gifts are delivered throughout the UK and are carefully packaged to ensure they arrive safely. In 2008 Mother's Day falls on Sunday the 2nd of March. Our courier (Citylink) doesn’t offer Sunday deliveries, so we recommend you have your parcel delivered on the Thursday 28th or Friday 29th of February. Our parcels are packaged in such a way that there will be no clues as to their contents. We can put a large Mother's Day sticker saying ‘‘Do not open until Mother’s Day’’. For a £6.50 surcharge we can deliver on Saturday 1st of March. Alternatively, why not have the parcel delivered to you the week before for you to hand deliver if you’re paying a visit.
