The Vineyards
Stretched out over just a few thousand acres, the Champagne region and its vineyards are revered the world-over. Lush and deep green in spring and summer, russet in autumn and white in winter, this is a rare and precious place.
Lanson is privileged to gather its grapes from 800 acres of the regions most prestigious vineyards, which produce the three noble varieties – the powerful Pinot Noir, the rounder, fruitier Pinot Meunier & the delicately elegant Chardonnay grape. Each variety is imbued with the unique characteristics of the chalky soil & the vines that produce it.
After harvesting, the grapes undergo a rigorous selection process before being sent to the wine presses located at the very heart of the vineyards.

Lanson's History Formed in 1760 by Francois Delamotte, a magistrate from Reims, the Lanson House is one of the oldest in the world. In 1798 the business was taken over by his son Nicolas-Louis, a Royal Knight of Malta, who adopted the Maltese Cross as the company logo. In 1828 he formed a partnership with Jean-Baptiste Lanson a prominent politician and judge from whom the modern house name is derived. After the end of the First World War the House expanded rapidly acquiring their own cellars in 1926 and beginning to purchase land for vineyards.
In 1976 Lanson purchased the small, neighbouring house of Masse which produces 500,000 bottles per year. The house grew quickly but was unstable due to the large number of shareholders who tended to squabble amongst themselves. By 1979 Pierre Lanson’s in-laws, the Gardiner family had taken charge of the company and subsequently sold it on to the BSN group in 1984. This turned out to be a positive move for the company which continued to run based on the expertise of a few talented individuals but had the benefit of the command structure and support network of a large group. Lanson harvests its grapes from 800 acres of superb vineyards in the best locations leading to the production of one of the worlds premium champagnes.
